Best 2020 Bathroom Trends

bathroom reno trends

Maximalism is the new buzz word for interior designers.  Where Minimalism is the philosophy that less possessions equals a greater quality of life. Maximalism in design really is more is more!  Here’s the thing, I think they can co-exist in the same room!  I know what you’re thinking; there’s no way you can have a minimalist attitude and still decorate with a maximalist approach.  However, you don’t need a lot of “things or possessions” to create a lush maximalist interior.  The top 7 trends in bathroom design for this year will showcase the maximalist trend perfectly, plus how to achieve it without adding “things”.  For more information on this design movement check out this great article Freshome

2020 Bath Trends:

  1.  Color Saturated High Gloss Tiles: 2020 is new colorful and shiny. Most bath tiles have a little sheen to them because they need to be water-resistant and easy to clean.  But what’s new is the super shiny gloss finish that will replace the matte finish that has been ruling for far too long.

2. Wide Grout Lines:  For years we have listened to every client say “I don’t want to see the grout lines.  Put the tiles as close together as possible.” Well here come some grout lines.  Time will tell if this trend takes over.

3.  Asymmetrical Mirror & Sink Combos: I really love this trend for renovations. This is going to work amazing in some of the older condos we have here on the coast.  So many baths were built with long countertops and small sinks with a wall to wall mirror.  Now that everyone wants a smaller accent mirror it was difficult to position.  This trend will make our life so much easier!

4.  Brass is Back! Brushed Brass has a romantic feel that adds a little Luxe to your bathroom.  It is a little bit of glamour that stuns against natural stone. Even a small accent like the frame of a mirror or the base of a sconce makes a major impact.

5. Deep Soaking Tubs: They never really went out of style, but lately I have seen an increase in Art Deco – inspired bathrooms and bathtubs.

6.  Shaped Tile: The rectangle subway tile is getting pushed aside to make room for funkier shapes like hexagons, scallops, and geometric patterns. Opting for a shaped tile is a great way to make an impact if you aren’t willing to commit to a bold color.

7.  Bold Color! Gone is the all-white room. In 2020 color is the biggest trend. Whether you choose neutrals or a darker color like teal or even terracotta, be sure to go bold.  Whilst choosing a color, me mindful of how it can impact your mood.  Green is optimistic, ochre is warm and relaxed, Blue is calming- how do you want your bathroom to feel.

As with all trends, they’re just trends.  The final decision is yours and yours alone.  Most of these trends can be incorporated into your design in small ways, working with your existing plan.  Changing the mirror or updating the fixtures can have a big impact and add texture and color without adding clutter or cost.  I hope these ideas inspire you to create your own bathroom sanctuary.

Top 5 Kitchen trends for 2020!

2020 kitchen trends sign

If you’re like me, you spend more time in the kitchen than any other room in your house (except maybe the bedroom but let’s face it sleep time doesn’t count).  It’s where we gather to cook, eat, create school projects and entertain.  Open floor plans; kitchen, living dining all together, are trending out of fashion.  I think we’re tired of being reminded of our dirty dishes while trying to entertain, eat or watch tv.  However, unless you’re building a new home or have an unlimited budget the open concept is what we have to work with in terms of design and decor.  With that in mind here is my list of the trends for 2020 in kitchen design.

    1. Bold and Eclectic Backsplashes: 2020 will be the year we start a departure from traditional white subway tiles in favor of more unique, modern, colorful backsplash designs.  As stated earlier this year in my article 5 Design Trends on the Way Out!

      2. Colorful and Unique Round Islands:  Show of hands, whose hit your hip on the corners of your island or counter tops?  Well you won’t have that problem with a ROUND ISLAND! Plus, don’t forget our biggst trend this year COLOR!

3.Colorful Upholstery:  We are closing the door on the pure white kitchens.  However, if you’re still loving your all white kitchen and not ready for a complete redo, just add some pops of color.

      4. Unique Appliances finishes: Although stainless steel appliances are still a popular option, the new go to for 2020 will be paneled appliances to match surrounding cabinets or colorful new options.  Even white appliances have gotten an upgrade with the arctic white color and smooth finish.

5.Quartz is King!  This countertop material is extremely hardy, can last virtually forever, is a breeze to maintain and is anti-microbial. However, don’t forget Terrazzo, Eco friendly Composite or reclaimed wood! Here are some great options 11 Inspiring Kitchen Countertop Trends .

Thanks for taking the time to read our blog and I hope these ideas have inspired you.  Please feel free to share this and as always, we’re here if you need help with any renovation needs! Be sure to follow us for more design and home renovation articles. Stephanie & Chris Roessler

5 Design Trends On The Way OUT!

design trend 2020 signChanges were on the way even before the corvid-19 pandemic and economic crisis recked havoc on our everyday lives. However, in a strange way I believe the trends predicted will hold true for this unprecedented year.  As we spend more time at home I see us making changes to create unique spaces that can comfort us and insulate us when the world is just a little bit disconcerting.  These new trends are going to have us adding more color and detail to our homes.

2020 needs to be colorful and shiny, now more than ever we need to live in spaces that feed our creativity and our passion for living.    Remember, these ideas for designs are just suggestions as with all trends they come and go. If you love what you have, keep it! The most important thing is that your’re comfortable in your own home.  But, if your’re looking to renovate soon these are a few tips to keep your home looking fresh. After we talk a little about what is OUT, keep watch for my next two articles on Bath and Kitchen trends for this year to see what is IN!  Lets get started.

  1. All White Kitchens and Baths are OUT! This year as I stated colour will be the biggest trend!  Whether you choose neutrals or darker colors like teal or even terracotta, be sure to go bold!
  2. Stainless Steel Appliances are OUT! It’s a classic, I get it and it will always be available, but there are sooo many choices now, arctic white, matte black and teal just to name a few. Besides, be honest who’s tired of trying to keep it free of spots and finger prints.  Me!  Here’s just a few ideas and for some more check out this great article from Houzz – Colorful Kitchen Appliances

    3. Subway Tiles are OUT!  They were a great easy minimalist look for a backsplash, but they’ve had their day in the sun and seem to be a bit over used.  Why not choose a different shape or a handmade tile instead?

    4. Barn Doors are OUT! Honestly, they only work in very few situations and designs anyway, plus they’ve been a bet overdone.

    5. Grey is OUT! I always look to Sherwin Williams when searching for colors or ideas for combinations for clients.  I love their  Visulalizer program it lets clients  see the color in their room!  Amazing.  So, when they tell me about trends, I listen.  Their latest survey results show that design is moving in a new direction. It’s not just about how colors look in a space, but how they make you feel. That’s why I think gray is trending out and darker richer colors are trending in, they envelop us and make us feel cozy, turning our homes into the retreats I think we’re all craving.

Black is the new neutral, beige will be the comeback queen and green will be a big trend replacing blue this year.

Now that you know what’s on the outs, be sure to keep a watch for my follow up articles on the latest trends for Bathroom and Kitchen renovations.                                Stephanie Roessler     #trends2020 , #interiordesign, #renovation, #design, #floridaconstruction, #destinremodeling
